WEST CATHOLIC’S MICHIGAN BLOOD SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria:  Current Seniors

Please pick up guideline coversheet in the Guidance Office. 

Essay requirement:  Write a 250 word essay that answers the question “Why do you donate?/Why is it important to donate blood?”

Coversheet and essay must be returned to the Guidance Office by Wednesday, April 25, 2012.

 

 

ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA SORORITY, INC

Who: Graduating Seniors or 9-12th grade students wishing to do summer study/travel.

Eligibility:  9-12th grade living in greater Grand Rapids, 2.75 grade point average, school /community involvement, attending 2-4 yr. college or accepted into a summer program

Required: Completed application, high school transcript, copy of acceptance letter , typed essay of 750 words using the prompt provided

MI2020 SCHOLARSHIP COMPETITION

Criteria:  current Michigan high school seniors

Award:  $10,000

Deadline:  April 20, 2012

Guidelines:  To enter, high school seniors are asked to create a short web video that explains why Michigan needs to enact the Michigan 2020 Plan to offer free college tuition to all students.  Submissions open March 6th.

TED TERHAAR MEMORIAL AND GRANDVILLE COMMUNITY SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria:   Jenison/Georgetown Township and Grandville area high school seniors or residents  pursuing a business degree in college.

Award:  1-$1,000 and 1-$500 for Ted terHaar and 1-$1,000 and 1-$500 for Grandville Community Scholarship

Deadline:  April 20, 2012

PLUMMER, LETTS, PARKS LEADERSHIP SCHOLARSHIP

Deadline:  May 1, 2012

Amount:  $1,000 Non-Renewable

Criteria:  3.0 GPA  and Essay:  “How I Value and Illustrate Leadership, Schoalrship and Service in My Life and in the Community.”

BOYDEN-SHAERER SCHOLARSHIP FUND

 Who:  Graduating Seniors with a 3.5 cum GPA through seven semesters

 What:  (2) $1,000 Scholarships

 Criteria:  Demonstrates financial need, extra-curricular activities including community service,

 leadership, (2) teacher recommendations

 Deadline:  April 15, 2012

DISABILITY SCHOLARSHIP

Criteria:  Applicant shall be a high school senior, at least 17 years of age attending a full-time public , private or home school; minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Applicants should submit an essay between 500 and 1,000 words about how they or someone they know overcame disability to do something great.

Deadline:  July 10, 2012

Amount:  $1,000 bi-annual scholarship

MICHIGAN STATE STUDENT TROOPER

Who:  Students 16-18 yrs. of age

What:  A one week experience at the Michigan State Police Academy as a preview for law enforcement as a career

AAA MICHIGAN’S SCHOOL SAFETY PATROL SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

 

Who:  One award granted to a senior from West Catholic High School

 

Criteria:  Must have been a safety patrol in elementary or middle school, in good academic standing, have a strong record of community involvement or extracurricular activities

Must also submit what being a Safety Patroller meant to you as well as a resume outlining your activities.

Kohl's Kids Who Care Scholarship Program - must be 18 or younger and able to demonstrate exceptional community service. Visit www.kohlskids.com for applications. 

Michigan Society of Professional Engineers - scholarships are available for seniors who are currently accepted at a Michigan ABET college or university, will enroll in an engineering program, have at least a 3.0 GPA, attain an ACT composite score of 26 or above, and be a U.S. Citizen. Applications are available at http://www.michiganspe.org.

Joyce Ivy Foundation Pre-College Summer Scholarships for Ivy League Study - open to high school female sophomores and juniors who are interested in attending a summer academic program at an Ivy League or equivalent college. The Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) student essay contest - 700-1,200 word essay explaining why free speech and First Amendment rights are crutial to higher education. Details can be obtained at www.thefire.org/contests

Elks National Foundation Scholarships - ENF Most Valuable Student Awards are available to seniors who enroll in four-year undergraduate degree programs. Judging is based on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Applications can be obtained at www.elks.org/enf/scholars.

24 scholarships are available!  To be eligible for consideration, students must be enrolled at one of the 14 MCF institutions (see below).  To apply, students should inquire directly through the financial aid office of the MCF member college or university they are planning to attend.
